#wip = Work in Progress

For a bit of eye candy, I make a point of looking at my neighbor’s garden these days when I leave the house. Anna’s Garden, 18” x 12”, available unframed now or framed at the Boylan Heights Artwork.

I thought I’d show you some of the work finished and in progress at the studio this week, and also talk about what’s inspiring me this Autumn.

Yellow is my color this season. While searching for new glazes, I came across the most beautiful butterscotch hue. Not only does it fire with a glow, but it also goes brown where the glaze is thin. Similar to how yellow petals age on mums. When I came out of my surgery haze, I noticed my neighbor Anna's garden had bloomed into an abundance of beautiful yellow and purple flowers that visually knocked me over. Her garden made me see yellow differently. Inspiring me to make the color a star this season.

In following my flow I seem to be narrowing my subject matter down to cone flowers, sunflowers, and poppies. It’s early in the making season, so we’ll see. Moonlit Hill, 12” x 18”, available unframed now or framed at the Boylan Heights Artwork.

I sold the studio's last birdhouse a few weeks ago and realized I needed to make more for Christmas. I made two this week and will do a few more over the weekend.

Each time I make birdhouses, I see myself getting faster, spending less time making sure they're square, and getting that inner and removable box at the bottom to fit. It reminds me of a phase I first heard in yoga; the practice is perfect.

I'm happy to be in the studio; the weather is beautiful, and I have all those great windows. When my leg gets stiff from sitting or standing, I do an exercise they taught me at PT. Sitting in a chair with wheels, I use the heels of my feet to pull myself around the work tables. The practice was hard a few weeks ago, but now I'm scooting around the tables like a pro.
