JC Raulston Arboretum's Raulston Blooms Event!!! 

Saturday, April 30, 2022 – 10:00 am–4:00 pm. 

The festival includes:

• 20th Annual Birdhouse Competition

• JCRA Spring Plant Sale – exceptional and unusual plants

• Gardening talks – learn from the experts

• Used gardening book sale

• Educational displays and demonstrations

• Hands-on fun for children and families

• Invited artists and crafters

• Food trucks and NC State Howling Cow ice cream cups

Admission is free for members, $5.00 for nonmembers, and $10.00 per family. There's parking in the lot and along Beryl Road.

Why am I promoting the Arboretum's event? Because they've brought back the Birdhouse competition, and I want you to go see my entry. I'll be finishing another of the birdhouse pedestals to put into the Flight of Fancy category of the show. Adults have two classifications; "serious," birdhouses that work for the birds, are built to their specifications, and are easy to clean at the end of the season. In the "flights of fancy" category, serious stuff is at the bottom of the list, putting aesthetics, craftsmanship, and creativity at the top. Remember my entry is in the "flights of fancy" section.

The Arboretum is a city treasure, and if you haven't been there, you're in for a treat. It's really quite beautiful. The plant sale is spectacular! A unique and healthy selection of plants will delight you. Bring your favorites home to remember the day.
