These next two weeks, the studio will be busy. I'm finishing the mural for the Rex Cancer Center. Installing the mural isn't as simple as gluing it to the wall. The fired mural will be measured and fitted for a metal frame and concrete board fabrication. That, in turn, will be installed two or three inches off the terrace wall, preventing rain and snow from running down the surface of the artwork. Then the tile installer will glue and grout the mural tiles into place. The finishing touch will be to seal the grout and tiles.
This is a quickly put-together image of the mural so far. I hope it'll give you a feel for it. I think you'll need to see it for yourself to appreciate it. Unfortunately, this is the widest I can post an image on the blog. Visit my Instagram page to see the individual tiles.
