As Christmas gets closer, time seems compressed. I'm focused on the Boylan Heights ArtWalk, the mural installation, and a flurry of custom Christmas presents. Cylinder vases with swirl and dot pattern and vase receiving an undercoat of white.
Inspiration is a lovely thing. One idea leads to another, and before you know it, you're someplace else. That's what happened with the simple dot and swirls pattern I was using on the ornaments. First, I added it to some vases and loved how festive they've fired. Then I started adding it to some coil vases I was working on, and then there were leaves.
You can see the patterns got denser as I went along. These coiled vases all range between 11” and 12”. The one on the right is the vase I was painting white in the picture above.
All this drawing is time-consuming, so I had a good laugh at myself when I realized I was adding more steps by painting the pots white. Some glazes are more magical on lighter clays than they are on dark ones. The color on the lamps below would have been a blah brown, to make it sing I added a white undercoat. Now it’s enchanting.
The lamp bases are 15.5” and 14.5” tall with the shades they 26” and 28”. Although not exactly the same size they do read as a pair.
