Now that we made it to the New Year...

Plant the seeds of your dreams and weed all the objections out.

If you live here in North Carolina it’s not too late to plant some spring color! There’s still time to plant tulips if you do it right away. 20” x 24” Kitchen Backsplash.

Now is a great time to create a vision board for yourself and with your kids. You can plant the seeds of your future desires while teaching or learning collage techniques. It's a great way to spend one of these rainy afternoons we've been having. All you need are some old magazines, poster board, glue, and a cheap paintbrush to apply the glue with. I put out a call to my neighbors, in about two hours, I had a stack of magazines.

Start by talking with each other about what you want, then while you browse the magazines for images and phrases, you can help each other find what you're looking for. If you've always wanted one of my backsplashes, be sure to take an image off the website, print it, and paste it in. Once you have a stack of images, you can start gluing them down. I am ridiculously tight and desire perfection in everything except how clean my car and studio are. Here is an image of the one I created this past week.

I arranged it, photographed it so I would know what to glue down first, and then made it permanent. You can alway write in the words you can’t find.

My painter friend Leslie did the one below. It's a much looser approach than mine, with more spiritual thinking behind it. Her blog this week is also on vision boards. Read it here.

If that's all too woo woo for you, it's not too late to plant some food. There's a wide variety of leafy greens that can still be planted in NC: swiss chard, kale, mustard greens, spinach, lettuce, and Asian greens, enjoy in soups or sauté as side dishes. Lettuce is quick. Mescalin greens can grow and be harvested in 28 days in the ground or in a pot. They'll brighten the table as well as your taste buds through the next few cold months. Root vegetables, leeks, onions, and kohlrabi can be planted from seed, while Cabbage and cauliflower transplants can also be planted now. Whatever you plant, I hope your 2021 garden grows lush and beautiful, Happy New Year.
