From Pottery to Paws: A Whirlwind of Creation and Connection
Customer shopping at the Mint Show a few weeks ago. My new towers in the fore and back ground.
The Potter’s Market at the Mint was a tremendous success, and I’m so grateful to the organizers and volunteers for the excellent food and smooth setup and breakdown procedures. And also to the attendees, I must replenish my stock of lamps, birdhouses, and trays. I love making lamps, and I’ve already made four 20” tall bases. My new towers were a huge hit, drawing lots of attention and big smiles. Although there were no buyers, I plan to install one outside the studio. The tower making wore me out, as did all the driving, setting up, and breaking down on Friday and Saturday, only to do it all again on Sunday for the Boylan Arts District (BAD) Studio Tour. That’s the studio news.
Some new 20” lamp bases in the works. A variety of sizes will be available for the Christmas giving season.
While I’ve been resting, catching up with my garden, and dreaming of lamp shapes, I’ve also been haunting the Wake County Animal Center for a new dog companion. After fostering Shi, I really grew to appreciate bully breeds—their mix of sweet and smart is special. I was hoping to find one I’d connect with, but with no luck. Instead, I found a quietly endearing Siberian Husky. While I was looking at the likes of Sparky and Giggles Grimm I kept passing this young lady (she’s three) whose demeanor was always calm and above the fray, with soulful eyes. After a week of passing her by I finally asked to meet her. She planted herself at my side for pets and scratches and that was it. I have dog. While it’s only been a few days I feel the choice was solid and I’ve decided to n!ame her Stella. There’s this rule of three when it comes to pet adoption. In 3 days the dog will start to feel comfortable, in 3 weeks she’ll know the routine, and at 3 months she’ll know she’s home. I can’t wait to watch her personality come to be. I already know she’s a picky eater just like me.
My beautiful new companion, Stella.
I’d like to give a shout out to the staff and volunteers of the Wake County Animal Center. I was there so often they knew my name and I was knowing their routine. Everyone was considerate and helpful, sharing their knowledge of the dogs they care for. I know it looks like all the dogs are pitties, they’re just the last to be adopted, if you’re looking for a pet I hope you’ll look there first and often to find the next love of your life.
Thanks for sticking with me—I’ll keep you posted as things go.
