One of the great strengths of North Carolina pottery lies in its continuity. In contrast to most other states, North Carolina's potters did not cease work when the old utilitarian forms were superseded by the Industrial Revolution. Instead, they stayed at their wheels and gradually transformed the old craft; they embarked on a century long era of innovation and growth, securing the craft's important position in the historic and artistic culture of contemporary life. Today, North Carolina potters are flourishing; sustained through their sense of tradition and their awareness of earlier forms, glazes, or technologies.

Potters have the opportunity to share their works through the Catawba Valley Pottery and Antiques Festival (CVP&AF) with more than 115 participating potters and vendors. It is a non-profit event benefiting the Catawba County Historical Association in Newton, and the North Carolina Pottery Center in Seagrove.
